The palace is divided into two sections, the eastern side, known as the Rangmahal, and the western side, known as the Andarmahal.
The Rangmahal consists a large drawing room and a Jalsaghar decorated with beautifully crafted wooden ceilings, along with a library, card room, state room and guest rooms.
The splendid Dining and Darbar halls, decorated with white, yellow and green ceramic tile floors are located within the Andarmahal. The attractive wooden stairs inside the palace are beautifully designed with ornamented balusters and ironed railings.
The palace displays sublime architectural art with marble polished corridors and multicolored glass inner doors.
This grand structure has been reconstructed and revived many times after being damaged by natural disasters. In 1992 the palace was declared the National Museum of Bangladesh.
