Dated back to 13th century, Burgos Cathedral was created by King Ferdinand III & Mauricio, Bishop of Burgos. The church went through evolutionary changes under the inspiration of Renaissance during 15th to 16th century, while it acquired a Gothic makeover and in 18th century it was further rejuvenated.

Architecture and Design

The cathedral mainly has a three-storied principal façade (in classic French style), which has a triple entrance of arched framed (Italian) doorways and pinnacles along with tracery designed rose windows. Containing 2 lateral towers around the 3 bays, the cathedral consists flamboyant gallery and lantern spires. The pointed spires displaying complex tracery works embody Gothic touch, while the works of stainless glass and cloister demonstrate French Catholic art.

Inside of the Cathedral

There are those 15 chapels which were added in 14th century in the cloister and long passages (aisles) in archiepiscopal palace, containing the statue of Papamoscas flycatcher, the tomb of Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar and wife Dona Jimna, built in 1919, and balustrades with inscribed stones.
