Vidhana Soudha, the historic building constructed in Mysore Neo-Dravidian architectural style, currently houses the Karnataka state Government Legislative Chambers. The foundation for the construction of Vidhana Soudha was laid on the 13th of July, 1951 by the then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. But, its design and construction are credited to Kengal Hanumanthaiah (Karnataka Chief Minister between 1952 and 1956) who travelled to places like United States, Europe and Russia to incorporate the designs of various famous buildings and constructions to conceive a unique plan for the Vidhana Soudha. The construction of the marvelous building completed in 1956.

The 46 m high granite and porphyry building adorned with an ornate dome on each corner has a Four-headed Lion sculpture, the national symbol of the country, embellishing the main entrance. Vidhan Soudha has three hundred rooms housing around 22 departments of the Karnataka Government. The elaborately carved sandalwood door in the Cabinet room is one of the principal attractions of the building.
