Amber fort or Amer fort, located in a small town called Amer (earlier known as Dhundar), 11 km away from Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan, India, is one of the most important tourist destinations of the state. Built on a high hill and overlooking the Maota Lake, the fort is famous for its aesthetic and natural beauty.
Amber’s (later Jaipur) Kacchwaha King Man Singh I built the fort in 1592. It is known for its amazing artistry and Hindu architectural style. The fort was later renovated and expanded by Raja Jai Sigh I, descendant of Man Singh I. The fort continued to undergo improvements and expansions over the next hundred and fifty years by the successive generations of Kachwaha kings until their capital was shifted to Jaipur in 1727, during the rule of Sawai Jai Singh II.
