Fatehpur Sikri is a historical city located in the district of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar when he wanted to move his capital, after winning over Chittor and Ranthambore, from Agra to another location on Sikri ridge, in honor of the Sufi saint Salim Chishti. Fatehpur Sikri, initially known as Fatehabad, served as the Mughal capital between 1571 and 1585. It took around 15 years to complete the planning and construction of the walled city with all its royal palaces, courts, harem, private quarters and a mosque. One of the best instances of Mughal architecture, Fatehpur Sikri is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
