The National Martyr’s Memorial or Jatiyo Smriti Soudho is considered as the national monument of Bangladesh. Located in Savar, 35 k.m. north-west of Dhaka, the monument symbolizes the heroic sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the Independence War of Bangladesh in 1972.
Designed by Syed Mainul Hussain, this 150 ft. high structure occupies an area of 84 acres, with seven isosceles triangular planes of varying sizes deployed for its construction. A laying wreath and a pool are located right in front of the monument.
The tower is built with concrete, while the pavements and other parts of the complex are made of red bricks.
